Putting Green Questions & Answers
What kind of shapes and slopes can you have on a putting green?
All of our putting greens can be custom shaped and sloped to the same characteristics of a natural turf putting
green. We will create left-right, right-left and straight putts based on the size of the putting green.

What kind of green speeds can I expect on a TourTurf putting green?
The average speed of our putting greens measures a 10 on the stimp meter. The speed can be increased by
using a roller or slowed by using a brush to stand the fibers more upright.

What kind of maintenance is required for the putting green?
The maintenance for a TourTurf putting green is minimal. Maintenance consists of keeping the green free of
debris which can be done with a low speed leaf blower. Additionally, it is important to keep natural turf from
growing in with the synthetic turf. This can be accomplished by spraying the encroaching natural turf with a
product such a Round Up. The Round Up will not harm the synthetic turf and will prevent the encroaching
natural turf from spreading. This can be done on an "as needed" basis.   Brushing and rolling your putting
green, with the tools we provide at the time of installation, will keep your putting green playing it’s best for
years to come!

Will a TourTurf putting green receive a shot from the fairway?
Yes. TourTurf putting greens are built to receive shots from the fairway and from around the green. Our
patented infill of silica sand and cryogenic rubber provide a surface that will receive a shot very similar to that
of a natural turf putting green.

What is the putting green surface made of?
The synthetic turf is a polypropylene fiber. The infill is a patented combination of silica sand and crumb rubber.

What is the base material under the synthetic turf?
The base material is a combination of limestone screenings. The stone is shaped and rolled to provide a solid
foundation for the synthetic turf to be installed on.

Will the putting green drain?
Yes. Our putting greens are shaped to allow for 90% to 95% of the water (rain) to surface drain off the turf.
The remaining water will be absorbed into the infill material.

What is the life expectancy for a TourTurf putting green?
TourTurf by FIELDturf putting greens are warranted for 8 years and are generally expected to last 10 to 15
years if properly cared for.  We have greens that have been installed for 8+ years in Arizona, Texas, California
and Florida that are still in use today.

Is there a minimum square footage for putting greens?
We recommend 250 square feet per hole and have minimum project sizes which are decided on a local or
regional basis.  Typically, a green which is less than 500 square feet does not look realistic, however, we can
install a putting green of any shape and/or size.
Call us today for details.

What is the warranty and how much does the warranty cost?
The synthetic turf is warranted for 8 years and the installation work is warranted for 1 year.  The warranty is
included in the price of installation.

Will the turf fade from UV or is it protected?
The synthetic turf is protected against fading from UV rays and is included in the warranty.

Can I buy the turf and install it myself?
AlternaScapes is a design and installation company that specializes in the sale and installation of synthetic
turf.  All of our installations are performed by our own crew of professional, experienced installers. This
assures you of receiving the finest quality workmanship and installation by our own staff.  A synthetic putting
green is not a “do-it-yourself” type of project due to the required equipment and knowledge of working with
synthetic turf products.  Even a professional landscaper wouldn't do a good job installing their first few
synthetic putting greens without the proper training.  If you want to replicate a golf course quality surface, have
a professional install a TourTurf by FIELDturf putting green!

Who manufactures the synthetic turf?
FIELDturf is the manufacturer of the turf and has been responsible for the sale and installation of synthetic turf
around the world.  FIELDturf is the only synthetic turf company that can accurately claim to manufacture, sell
and install their product under the same name: FIELDturf.   Every other synthetic turf is manufactured by
independent carpet mills and sold under alternate names.  Why should you care?  Because when you
purchase a FIELDturf product, you know your are getting the best quality synthetic turf from the best
manufacturer.  When you purchase a competitor product, you will never know the manufacturer and can never
be certain that the product installed is the same product you actually purchased!

How much does it cost to have a putting green installed?
Prices are quoted on a project basis and can vary due to total size, accessibility and features included with the
putting green, however, the price typically ranges between $15 to $20 per square foot (the smaller the putting
green, the higher the price per square foot).  If someone else is quoting less than $15 per square foot, they
are leaving out valuable materials and steps in a proper installation!  Please
